Four things we do differently

Most online lessons teach you to copy a song. We teach you how the song was built, so the next one is easier than the last.

  • Creative development

    Theory is taught by using it. Students compose short pieces and improvise over what they have just learned, so a scale stops being homework and becomes something they can write with.

  • Ear training from day one

    We start ear training early rather than saving it for an advanced level. Recognising notes, intervals and melodies is what lets a student work out a song they love on their own, without waiting for a tutorial.

  • World music, not just Western

    We run hybrid courses that put Hindustani and Western music side by side. Hearing how two systems solve the same musical problem gives students a broader, more nuanced ear than either one alone.

  • Limited seats, on purpose

    Quality over quantity. We keep the number of seats small so classes stay with a dedicated in-house team who plan each student's route — not a rotating pool of freelancers.

How it works

Three steps to your first class

No entrance test, no long form, no obligation to continue after the demo.

  1. Step 1: Book a free demo

    Tell us the instrument, the age of the student and roughly when you are free. The demo is a real 30-minute class on video — not a sales call.

  2. Step 2: Get a level and a plan

    The teacher tells you honestly where to start, which course level fits, and what the first few months will cover. You also find out what gear you need at home.

  3. Step 3: Start weekly 1-on-1 classes

    Same teacher, same slot each week, with practice notes after every class. You keep the notation and resources you are given, whether or not you carry on.

A weekly class is 30 to 60 minutes. Most of the progress happens in the days around it, so we send you home with something to work from.

  • Trinity exam preparation

    If a student wants a graded qualification, we prepare them for Trinity College London exams — technical work, set pieces, aural and theory — alongside their regular course.

    Ask for a song and we write out the notation or tab for it, matched to the level you are at. You keep the file — no subscription, no watermarked previews.

  • Learning resources

    Practice sheets, chord and scale references, backing tracks and written theory articles, so the six days between classes are not guesswork.

Meet Yash Shandilya

Founder & Lead Teacher

Yash has been teaching piano and guitar one-on-one since 2021. He writes the music-theory articles on this site, designs every course in the curriculum, and teaches every class himself.

Tune Epicenter is deliberately small. Every teacher on the team is a permanent part of it, so the person who plans your course is the person who turns up to teach it.

Questions parents ask first

What age do you teach?
Piano starts from age 6 and guitar from age 8 — those are the ages at which the hands, ears and attention span are usually ready for the instrument. There is no upper limit; adults are welcome, whether you are starting from scratch or returning to an instrument after years away.
Do I need my own instrument before I start?
You need the instrument at home to practise on, yes — a class alone will not build the muscle memory. For the free demo, though, come as you are. If you have not bought anything yet, the teacher will tell you exactly what to look for and what to avoid at your budget. A touch-sensitive 61-key keyboard is enough to begin piano, and any playable acoustic guitar is enough to begin guitar.
How do the online lessons actually work?
Each class is a live video call at a fixed weekly slot, one student and one teacher — nothing pre-recorded and no group sessions. You set your camera so the teacher can see your hands, they demonstrate on their own instrument, and you play back and forth in real time. After the class you get written practice notes, plus any notation or backing tracks for what you are working on.
What if we have to miss a class?
Tell your teacher in advance and we will move the class to another slot in the same week wherever the timetable allows — this is one of the practical advantages of one-on-one over a fixed group batch. Exams, illness, holidays and travel are normal; we would rather reschedule than have you turn up unable to concentrate.
How do I get started?
Book a free demo class. Tell us whether it is piano or guitar, the age of the student and roughly when you are free, and we will set up a 30-minute one-on-one session. You will play something in that first class, and at the end you get an honest recommendation on which level to start at and what the first few months would cover. There is no obligation to continue.
